Sectigo Extended Validation (EV) Code Signing Certificates

Sectigo EV Certificates gives you the tools to have your software trusted across all browsers. The place you'll see the most gains is with Microsoft users behind the SmartScreen filter. EV Code Signing established instant application reputation with SmartScreen, effectively killing those download-killing browser warnings and paving the way for more conversions-more money. EV Code Signing also comes with an added layer of security. To prevent unauthorized access to your private key, it is stored on an external hardware token. EV code signing works the same way as OV code signing but it requires a more comprehensive vetting process before being issued.

What changed? As of June 1, 2023, all Code Signing Certificates must comply with the new CA/B Forum regulations to ensure that the subscriber’s private key is generated, stored, and used in a suitable FIPS-compliant hardware.

Note: The new CA/B Forum rules require all Code Signing Certificates be provisioned and shipped on hardware-based tokens. Since the private key is stored on the hardware token, for security it cannot be copied or exported to create a PFX file.
